Great Article on ‘How Dental School Works’

I found this great article by Dr. Jerry Gordon of Bensalem, PA called ‘How Dental School Works’.

The article is a lengthy yet concise and covers the basics of getting into dentistry.  Everything from what you should do in high school, college, when you should take the Dental Admission Test, and includes a basic synopsis of the four years of dental school, National Boards, residency and what Dr. Jerry Gordonto expect after dental school.

Here is the article

He mentions that you should start looking into dentistry in high school.  While I agree I am also aware that 90% of kids in high school have no clue what they want to do when they graduate or start college.  Don’t let this discourage you.  My first semester of college was a new experiance for me and instead of studying hard I used my new found freedom to have fun.  My grades suffered and as a result of having fun I got a 1.7 GPA.  My first semester of college!  After that I was able to pull myself together and after a long 4 years of retaking some classes and doing well in others I got into dental school.

To become a dentist you do not have to know that you want to do it as early as high school. In fact there are several people who decide to change their career as late as thier 30′s or 40′s.  They go back to school and are able to get into dental school at a much later time in their lives.

I realize Dr. Gordon wasn’t saying anything about not becoming a dentist unless you start in high school, but it raises the point that you can do or become what you want in life (within reason) if you want it bad enough.  With that said, dentistry is possible for anyone who works hard enough at it and doesn’t give up.  Where there is a will, there is a way.
