I felt like I was holding my breath for 5 months! After what I believe to be the busiest 5-6 months of my life, I can sit back and do some ‘internetting’ for a couple of minutes. Let me start at the beginning. In the last few days of June 2009 I applied to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery programs across the U.S.A. I will talk more on this process in future articles, but let’s just say that I spent money I didn’t have, took time off that I couldn’t afford, and got less sleep than I ever have before. Today the results of the match came out at about 8:30AM with my result:
Cook County Hospital in Chicago!
I celebrated with my family and some good friends of ours (who also matched) by getting a nice steak and rib meal. As for our dental school we had a great year for all residency applicants. OMFS, Ortho, and Pedo applicants all did well with the whole match process.
Between now and graduation expect a few more articles and some insights on the whole process and the life of a fourth year dental student…Just don’t hold your breath.
